Treatment of various enterprises (coal mining), natural wonders (red wood tree being harvested, makes Bush smile), & local info. (City of Cincinnati). The text is usually in v.g. condition, & four of the vols are in orig. lea. & marbled bds. The other five have recent bkstrps & new labels. The text illus. are present, but some of the fold or supplement plts, most are either torn, creased, or gone. 5 (Browne, Gordon Frederick) A NOBODY'S SCRAP BOOK.
London 1900 sm. 4to
approx. 90pp. Delightfully dry cartoons by an illustrator known for work in books by Henty, Scott, Lang, etc. Although this title is not listed by OCLC or by NUC (by title or author), Browne is credited w/Nonsense for Somebody by a Nobody & w/Some More Nonsense... By a Nobody. Browne is most to be noted for his series (in one case he has developed six panels to describe the misfortunes of on-lookers when a young lady falls through the ice). Those titles (one location each per NUC) have same publr & the technique is extremely similar. Twenty of the leaves have cartoons on each side, each leaf with intervening blank (making 40 leaves); 1st leaf is ftspc & 2nd is the t.p. Browne practiced great restraint in color. Half cl., paper (shelf worn) over bds. This is still a very good copy, resewn. Illustrated. (203854691)
