Alright, so check this out. Yesterday, I decided to actually try and improve my awful golf game. I’m talking about actually putting in some effort, not just hacking away at the driving range and calling it practice. The focus was on the “maxwell ford golf” concept, which, as I understand it, is all about consistent swing mechanics and a solid impact position. I’ll break down what I did.

First things first, I booked a lesson. Yeah, I know, swallowing my pride and admitting I need help. I found a local pro who seemed pretty chill and not too focused on making me swing like Tiger Woods. Just wanted some basics.
The lesson itself was surprisingly useful. We started with the grip. Turns out I was holding the club way too tight, like I was afraid it was gonna fly away. He showed me how to get a relaxed grip, focusing on pressure points in my fingers. Made a huge difference instantly.
Then we moved onto stance and posture. My feet were all over the place, and I was hunched over like Quasimodo. He got me standing taller, weight balanced, and feet aligned properly. Felt awkward at first, but I could tell it was better.
Next up: the swing itself. He broke it down into simple parts. Takeaway, backswing, transition, downswing, impact, and follow-through. Sounds like a lot, but he focused on keeping it smooth and connected. The main thing he hammered home was keeping my wrists hinged and releasing them properly at impact. Apparently, I was chicken-winging it like crazy.
We spent a good hour just working on these basics, hitting balls into the net. It was frustrating at times, because I felt like I was getting worse before I got better. But he kept reminding me that it’s all about building a solid foundation.

After the lesson, I didn’t just go home and forget about it. I went to the driving range and tried to put what I learned into practice. And honestly, it was a mixed bag. Some shots were great, solid contact, nice ball flight. Others were complete shanks, topping it, slicing it – the whole shebang.
But the key thing was that I was consciously trying to apply the principles I’d learned. Focusing on the grip, the stance, the swing path. And even the bad shots felt like I was learning something. I could feel what I was doing wrong, and try to correct it on the next swing.
I also recorded myself swinging on my phone. This was a game changer. Seeing my swing in slow motion was eye-opening. I could see all the flaws that I couldn’t feel. It’s brutal, but necessary.
Here’s what I plan on doing for the next few weeks, it’s going to be a grind:
- More lessons. Gonna book another one with the same pro in a week or two, to keep me on track.
- Consistent practice. Trying to hit the range at least twice a week, focusing on the fundamentals.
- Video analysis. Keep recording my swing and analyzing it, looking for areas to improve.
- Short game practice. Neglecting the short game is a classic mistake. Need to work on chipping and putting.
Honestly, I don’t expect to become a pro overnight. But I’m hoping that by putting in the effort and focusing on the “maxwell ford golf” principles, I can at least shave a few strokes off my handicap and stop embarrassing myself on the course.

So, yeah, that’s my golf journey so far. Stay tuned for updates. Maybe I’ll even post some videos of my swing – if I’m brave enough.
