Okay, so let me tell you about my little experiment with these UFC weight gloves.

Where can you buy real UFC weight gloves? Check out these trusted places for authentic gear.

Why I Got Them

Alright, so I’ve been hitting the heavy bag for a while now, you know, just trying to stay active, blow off some steam. But I felt like I kinda plateaued. My punches felt… well, samey. I wasn’t really feeling that extra burn or push anymore. I remembered seeing weighted gloves somewhere, maybe in a movie or something, thought it might add a bit more resistance, make my arms work harder. The UFC brand popped up when I was browsing, looked tough, so I thought, why not give ’em a shot?

Getting My Hands on Them

Finding them wasn’t too hard. Did a quick search online, saw a few options. Didn’t really dive deep into specs or anything fancy. Just looked for something that said “UFC” and “weighted.” Found a pair, looked decent enough in the pictures, clicked buy. They arrived a few days later. Pulled them out of the package. They felt… interesting. Heavier than regular gloves, obviously, but the weight felt kinda distributed weirdly, mostly on the back of the hand. They looked pretty standard otherwise, typical MMA glove style, open palm.

First Time Trying Them Out

So, I strapped them on. Felt a bit clumsy at first. The weight, even if it wasn’t massive (I think mine were like 1lb each or something), was noticeable. Threw a few shadow punches. Yeah, definitely felt different. Slower. My arms felt heavier, duh. It wasn’t like strapping huge weights on, but enough to make me conscious of the movement.

Then I went to the heavy bag. Big mistake, maybe, for the first try. My form went a bit wonky. Trying to snap the punches felt weird with the extra weight pulling back. It forced me to focus more on the technique, I guess, because swinging wildly just felt awkward and tiring real fast. My shoulders and arms definitely felt the burn quicker than usual. I didn’t use them for the whole workout, maybe just a round or two to start.

Using Them Regularly (or Trying To)

I tried to incorporate them into my routine maybe twice a week. Here’s what I noticed:

  • Shadow Boxing: This felt like the best use for them, honestly. Moving around, throwing punches in the air, the resistance was constant. Made me focus on keeping my hands up too, ’cause they felt heavier.
  • Bag Work: Still felt a bit off. I worried about my technique breaking down or putting weird stress on my wrists because the weight distribution wasn’t perfectly balanced for impact. I used them sometimes, but lightly, focusing on control rather than power.
  • General Feel: They definitely made my arms and shoulders work more. After taking them off, my hands felt super light and fast, which was a cool sensation.

My Final Thoughts

So, were they worth it? Eh, kinda. They weren’t some magic bullet that instantly gave me knockout power. They’re more like a specific tool. Good for adding a bit of resistance to shadow boxing, maybe some very light controlled bag work if you’re careful. I wouldn’t use them for hitting pads hard or full-on sparring, definitely not. The weight placement just doesn’t feel right for that kind of impact.

For me, they ended up being something I use occasionally when I want to mix things up or really focus on that slow, controlled burn during shadow boxing. They didn’t revolutionize my training, but they added a little spice. Just gotta be mindful of your form and wrists when you use ’em, especially on the bag. They are what they are – weighted gloves. Nothing more, nothing less. Just another piece of gear in the pile.
