Today, I wanted to make a banner with a countdown timer for an upcoming event. I decided to try out something called “jinshi banner countdown,” though I wasn’t entirely sure what it was at first. I figured it was some sort of tool or library to help me achieve this.

First, I did some digging around to see what this “jinshi” thing was all about. It felt like searching for a needle in a haystack, but eventually, I found that it involves creating a banner with dynamic elements, including that sweet countdown I needed.

Getting Started

I started by setting up a basic HTML structure. You know, the usual stuff:

  • <!DOCTYPE html>
  • <html>
  • <head> and <body> tags.

Nothing fancy, just the skeleton to hold everything together.

Building the Banner

Next, I created a <div> to act as my banner container. Inside, I added some text elements:

  • A heading for the event name.
  • A paragraph to describe the event.

And of course, the star of the show – the countdown timer! For this, I used another <div> with a unique ID so I could easily target it with JavaScript later.

Styling with CSS

I am not good at CSS, so I kept things simple. I gave the banner some basic styling:

  • A background color.
  • Some padding.
  • Centered the text.

I just wanted it to look presentable, not win any design awards.

Adding the Countdown Magic (JavaScript)

This is where things got a little tricky. I needed JavaScript to make the countdown timer work. I’m not a JavaScript expert, so I spent a good chunk of time playing around with the code.

First, I set the target date for the countdown – the date of my event. Then, I wrote a function to calculate the remaining time:

  • Calculate the difference between the target date and the current date.
  • Convert the difference into days, hours, minutes, and seconds.

Finally, I used setInterval to update the timer every second. This made sure the countdown was always showing the correct remaining time.

Putting It All Together

I combined my HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. And I kept my fingers crossed. It took some trial and error, a few tweaks here and there, but finally, I had a working banner with a countdown timer!

It wasn’t perfect, and the “jinshi” part still felt a little mysterious, but I had successfully built a banner with a countdown, and that’s what mattered. I learned a bunch along the way, especially about how to wrestle with JavaScript. It felt pretty good to get it working in the end!
