2 DuBois, Arthur E. FOREIGN SEALS.
c.1960
Manuscript assemblage of clips (1" square & larger) about w/one to a p., & about w/several to a p. These are largely clipped from German texts, some from German trading stamps(?). Because of the added thickness of the paste-ons, pagination is an estimate, say 200 single-sided notebook pp., in pressboard binder w/hand-lettered bkstrp. Some exemplars probably have come loose & are laid in, some loose because DuBois may never have had the opportunity to lay down. He was a noted military heraldry expert (he designed the flag for the District of Columbia), & this vol. represents the nucleus of an idea he probably hoped to develop in his retirement, but now it's up to you. Usually one p. of notebook paper per letter. The other vol. titled Ribbons - Alphabetical Index & Color Guide for Filing All Ribbons has 16 sleeve-protected pp. w/graphic representations & 40 actual ribbons (w/space for several more). Also six leaves in various stages prior to those beneath sleeves. Also a dozen preliminary leaves of preliminary outlining & initial direction, together w/about three dozen actual samples of British (?) ribbons. A noted heraldry expert (he designed the flag for the District of Columbia), he likely prepared these vols towards the book many people hoped he would complete upon his retirement.
