5pp. "Mills' Cakewalk of 1897, "At A Georgia Campmeeting," was self publ., after being rejected by every firm to which it was submitted Its instant success ushered in the cakewalk as a musical protest against the vulgar racial stereotypes projected in the "Coon" songs…(it) enjoyed a five- or six-year life span." This is not a rag, but closely associated. Probably first ed.; if not, very early ed. Exagerated sterotype(unsigned artwork) illustration of three Afro-Amer. couples dancing. This copy separated at fold, two inch horizontal tear to each side with bottom margin frayed.. Although copies of the illustrated cover offered elsewhere (this ed.) at fifty, pleaese see as follows. TOGETHER WITH A TOTALLY DIFFERENT COVER ED. OF SAME YEAR. Closely trimmed at bottom edge, with a four inch edge tear at bottom. Removed from bound volume. Cover has nice typography but no art. Both printings have publisher's rubber signature stamp. Interestingly, neither printing located in Georgia, per OCLC. For the two items (5289839097)
