183 Winthrop, Theodore Collection of six titles by or about Theodore Winthrop.
NY 1863
Winthrop was a Yale educated atty who traveled extensively (Europe, Darren, American West), wrote six novels, several essays, & was the 1st Federal Officer fatality in the Civil War. His popularity (posthumous, for none of his novels were publ. in his life times) lead to more than Fifty issues (eds?) before 1865. We list as follows: Cecil Dreeme (1876); John Brent (c.1900); Edward Brothertoft (c.1900); Canoe & Saddle (1863, 1st ed.); Life & Poems (1884); & Edward Eliot's monograph Theodore Winthrop (1938). W/regard to condition Dreeme is cream cl., some age soil; Brent & Brothertoft are t.e.g., mildly ex-lib., good+. Canoe is poor (top cvr loose, bkstrp missing upper 1/3); Life, a bit rubbed & Eliot's title, near fine. Canoe has big credentials: Howes ,etc. Eliot's vignette (29pp.) reprints two CW letters to Geo. Wm Curtis (who prefaced Dreeme). For the lot of six tiles… 6 vol. (4590073635)
